This post will provides information about step by step procedure for installing Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit. Before install an Active Directory on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit, it needs to meet the following requirements.
Minimum System requirements:
Processor:
Minimum: 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor
RAM:
Minimum: 512 MB
Maximum: 32 GB (for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) or 2 TB (for Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, and Windows Server 2008 R2 for Itanium-Based Systems).
Disk space requirements:
Minimum: 32 GB
Network Requirements:
Minimum Gigabit (10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter)
Before install Active Directory, we have to make sure IP Address of Active Directory and Preferred DNS IPAddress should be same, why because when we are installing Active directory the DNS service is also install on the same machine.
Go to Start, Administrative Tools and Select Server Manager
click Add Roles
click Next to Continue the installation
Check the box, Active Directory Domain Services
click Add Required Features
After checking the box, Active Directory Domain Services and click Next
click Next
Confirm Installation by click Install
Active Directory installation is in progress
Active Directory Installation is completed and click Close
After reboot the server, open the server manager and click Run the Active Directory Domain Services Installation wizard(dcpromo.exe)
To continue the installation, click Next
click Next
Provide FQDN of the forest root domain
Its Checking whether the new forest name is already in use or not
It will take the Domain NetBIOS name automatically, NetBIOS name should not exceed more than 15 letters.
Set Forest Functional Level as default that is Windows Server 2003 and click Next
Set Domain Functional Level as default that is Windows Server 2003 and click Next
Default DNS Server option is selected and click Next
To continue, we have to press Yes
Location for Database, Log Files, SYSVOL and click Next
Provide Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password.
Review all the selection and click Next
Configuring the Active Directory Domain Services and check the box Reboot on completion
After the reboot, login with domain administrator and password
Open the command prompt, enter net accounts to check the computer role should be PRIMARY
After installation, check the Active Directory Domain Services consoles like, Active Directory User and Computers, Active Directory Domains and Trusts, Active Directory Sites and Services, DNS and Group Policy Management.
