VMware vSphere Update Manager 6.0 Installation Process

In previous post, I had shown you the Installation of vCenter Server 6.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2 step by step process. In this post, I will show you the installation of vSphere Update Manager 6.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2. Mount the vCenter Server Setup which is downloaded previously and launch the VMware vCenter Installer from the vCenter Server setup. Before going to install the vSphere Update Manager 6.0, we make sure the vSphere Update Manager 6.0 must be meet the minimum hardware requirements.

vSphere Update Manager 6.0 Hardware Requirements:

If the database is installed on the same machine as Update Manager, requirements for memory size and processor speed are higher. The minimum requirements to ensure acceptable performance are as follows:

  • Processor: Intel or AMD x86 processor with two or more logical cores, each with a speed of 2 GHz.
  • Network: 10/100 Mbps
    For best performance, use a Gigabit connection between Update Manager and ESXi hosts.
  • Memory:
    • 2 GB RAM if Update Manager and the vCenter Server are on different machines.
    • 8 GB RAM if Update Manager and the vCenter Server are on the same machine.

Select Server and check the box Use Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express and click Install1

Select Server and click Install

Select the Language English (United States) and click OK8

To continue installation, click Next10

I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next11

Check the box, Download updates from default sources immediately after installation and click Next12

Enter vCenter Server Information and click Next13

Select Destination Folder and click Next15

Ignore the warning and click OK16

Click Install to begin the installation17

Click Finish to exit the wizard19

Open vSphere Client, enter IP address or Name, User Name, Password and click Login20

Click Ignore to continue using the current SSL certificate21

Click Plug-in and select Manage Plug-in22

Verify the Available Plug-ins, select VMware vSphere Update Manager and click Download23

Its security warning, click Run to continue24

Select the language English (United States) and click OK25

To continue installation, click Next27

Select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next28

Click Install to begin the installation29

Click Finish to exit the wizard31

Click Ignore to continue using the current SSL certificate32

Verify VMware vSphere Update Manager Client is Enabled33

Click Home tab to verify the vSphere Update Manager is available or not34

In Solutions and Applications, select the Update Manager35
